We all know the importance of the being at our best. Our family, friends, clients and ourselves are depending on us to perform at the optimum level. Stay happy and you will perform at your very best. Being positive enables us to focus on what’s important. However, adverse circumstances and toxic people can sabotage our happiness.

Mindfulness is the focus on the present moment. Having gratitude for even the smallest things that you have at the present moment can have a profound effect on one’s psyche. Maintenance of this mindset is an ongoing struggle and there are many practices that will help maintain your positive mindset.

One such practice is meditation, yet not many people meditate. There’s a lot of misconception to what meditation is and this is what deters people from meditating. It is simply a way to rest, relax and reflect. Just find a quiet spot to sit, close your eyes, and follow your breath. Let your breath flow naturally and focus on it. Thoughts, images, and mental movies will pop up in your head. Observe them in a non-judgemental way and then gently go back to following of your breath. Do this the first thing in the morning, right before going to bed, and in the quiet times during the day. You will feel much better and happier.

Meditation releases endorphins, serotonin, dopamine, and other feel good chemicals to produce a natural high with no withdrawals. It is a great way to stay happy. Here’s a link for guidance in meditation:

Fortify Yourself

Another way to stay happy is to surround yourself with positive and upbeat people who will help lift you up. Good feelings are contagious and you will spread that happiness to others, reinforcing your happiness. On the other side of the coin, negativity is also contagious. That is why it is important to cut out or at least minimize contact with toxic people. Don’t let them bring you down with their complaining, arguing, and insults. Take the high road and you’ll keep your inner shine glowing.

Nutrition plays an important role in maintaining  good feelings. A proper diet with essential vitamins and minerals in the right proportion is key to proper nutrition. Furthermore, it is important to avoid junk food, alcohol, and tobacco. While hard drugs like heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine may give the user a sense of joy, this is false happiness.  Drug abuse will inevitably lead to a severe crash when the drug wears off and the body seeks to maintain equilibrium. Consequently, the person will lose their joy over time.

In addition to nutrition, sleep is another crucial component to overall well-being. Seven to eight hours a night is recommended for adults. While a small percentage of adults can get by with much less, this is the exception and not the rule. Too many people burn the candle at both ends. Sleep deprivation can have a devastating effect on mood.

In conclusion, mindfulness, which is the focus on the moment, is a key component in our arsenal to stay happy and be at our very best.

Make Your Transition

The Autumn/Spring Equinox is the day when the Sun rises directly in the east and sets directly in west. Day and night are equal in length. The Equinox brings with it a change of season.

As the Earth changes, so should we. Break old bad habits and develop new good ones. Disconnect from negative people, places, and activities to renew ourselves. Set new goals in life and reevaluate previous goals.

A shift in energy is to occur. With all the conflict and scarcity today, this is surely needed. By living our lives better on an individual basis, collectively we can set a trend that will promote peace and prosperity. We can not wait on others to make this a better world. Individually, we must take the lead ourselves to defeat the faceless foe of negativity and strife.

Abundance Ahead

We all strive to get through the haze of scarcity, be it financial, spiritual, or social. It may seem that obstacles block us from where we want to be in life. Abundance is the result of thought and action. It begins with a thought of abundance, then manifested by our action toward that goal.

Abundance is made up of two sides, like all other things in the Universe, consisting of a passive part, form; and an initiative part, force. Think of form as being the water in the sea and force as being the waves, moving the water up and down as they travel across.  Too much passive, and not enough action is performed to manifest the thoughts of abundance. Too much initiative, and all that is achieved is the enhancement of the perceived view of oneself to others, resulting in the mire gratifying of one’s ego. Neither is the way to true abundance, for there is no sense of one’s value nor honoring one’s specific calling. To achieve one’s full potential, balance must be maintained between force and form. Balance is achieved by pursuing abundance, through one’s specific talents, so that one can make a positive impact to the world.

There is so much we can do to spread abundance to others. Tithing 10% of our income to charitable causes, volunteering time and effort to the betterment of society, and donating essential goods to the poor are a few examples. By gifting, we send a message through our subconscious mind to the Universe that we are ready to receive abundance.

Many are trapped in a cycle of scarcity perpetuated by the scarcity mindset. They think that the proverbial glass is half empty and that they do not have enough talent, time, energy, money, love, etc. to accomplish their goals and to share with others. Poverty is a mental disease. By achieving abundance, through thought and action, we secure ourselves from want, as well as have the means to help alleviate the lack of others.

We all want to be free. It seems like there are many constraints to our freedom. The modern world saddles us with obligations and restrictions. We just want to breathe free, if only for a little while. The chains of life keep us from straying too far.

The greatest obstacles to our personal freedom is our mind and our heart. A mind that does not want to think positive. A heart that does not want to love, starting with loving yourself. One must love one’s self in order to be happy, and one must be happy to think positive. Only then, can a person attract the success needed to live free.

Mindfulness, developed through meditation, leads to awareness, awareness leads to enlightenment. By knowing ourselves, we can transcend the seemingly endless feedback loop of negativity that keeps us from growing. Only we can know ourselves and love ourselves in order to awaken from the slumber of doubt. Think in full color and out of the grayness of uncertainty.

Grow your mind and warm your heart. The world is wonderful, but it will pass you by if you let it. Just remember, when you think positive and feel happy, you can not help but to love yourself and set yourself free.

Make Your Life Better

We are empowered to improve our lives. Everything we need to prosper and grow is within each of us. It’s up to us to utilize our innate ability to control the direction of our lives.

You create your own reality. Whether you are consciously aware of it or not, your thoughts and feelings manifest into your physical world. Most of us are not aware of that fact, so our subconscious minds take control of our destiny. The subconscious mind, which maintains all processes not directly controlled by consciousness, contains all our fears, doubts, and worries. It’s going to manifest the negative things that we don’t want unless we take the helm.

If you do not like the way your life is going, simply change it. Change your feelings to positive ones. Think about what you want to do, then take action to make what you want happen. With thought and action, one can create the life one wants to live.

Fear not

Some people give others a hard time. Bullies in school, harassers at work, pushy salespeople, and aggressive drivers all make life hard for us. Why?

Aggression and violence are the symptoms. Symptoms of a malady within the aggressor. The underlining cause of which is the feeling of powerlessness and fear. It is from a position of weakness that bullies bully. They themselves were bullied, and that is the only way they know how to interact with others. They try to make themselves feel better about themselves by kicking others down. They only prove what kind of person they are, not what kind of person the victim is.

They exert all this energy trying to dominate others in a bid to feel powerful. Yet true power is being able to get the outcome you want with little effort. Just let the Universe revolve in its fashion, and it will reward you. Emit positivity, and you will be rewarded with more positivity. As effortless as flipping a switch.

Keep Going

Everyday, humanity pushes against the frontiers. New achievements move our species beyond the horizon. New advancements in science, math, and engineering better our lives and expand humankind’s body of knowledge. Athletes push their bodies to new limits. Artists create new works of beauty and creativity.

In our own personal lives, we too can strive forward. The housekeeper that takes night classes in nursing school. The apprentice working his way to a skilled trade. A teenager learning to play guitar. Or a retiree learning to knit, we all have opportunities to advance ourselves.

Always strive for more. Do not be complacent. No matter how many times you don’t succeed, keep trying. It makes us happy. That is because there’s something inside of all of us that makes us want to grow. It got our species to the point we are at. It is the expansionary nature of the cosmos built into all of us.

Random Acts of Kindness

In my previous writings, I have stressed the power of positive thinking. How just having a positive mentality can change the outcome of our daily lives for the better.

However, it is not always easy. Things in our lives can seem unbearable at things and a lot of times it’s the brain chemistry at that time or hormones overriding that positivity. Or it’s just not your day. Whatever the reason, the question you have is, “How do I get in a better mood?”

One of the best ways is to help someone else. It makes you feel happy and better about your own circumstances.

So when the day has got you down, commit random acts of kindness. It will brighten your day like no other.

Is Money Evil?

You’ve probably heard, “Money is the root of all evil.” Although money can be a source of greed and fear, basically money is a facsimile of energy and time. It represents the energy and time of the people who produce the goods and services we purchase with that money. Money itself is neither good or evil, it is analogous to water, it sustains life, but it can drown and crush as well.

Money can be used and is necessary for good. Money pays for a kidney transplant for a child. Money is needed by loving parents to raise a child. People tithe a portion of their income to their church. Since money represents energy, tithe money turns to love energy. The energy of producers is being channeled into acts of love.

So the next time someone tells you that money is the root of all evil, just remember that funds for good acts transform the raw energy of our productive economy into packets of love energy, the same substance that make up ourselves.
