Giving Thanks

John would always go to the beach on Sunday afternoon to go fishing. He posted up at his usual place, cast his line in the water, and waited for bites.

He notices a scuffy old man sitting down on the beach several yards away. He’s wearing a half unbuttoned Hawaiian shirt that looked like it was bought at a second hand thrift store, sun bleached cut off jeans as shorts and tacky flip flops.

John caught a few fish in the hour he was there, carefully releasing them after catching them. As the tide changed and the fish stopped biting, he started to leave. He approached the old man.

John asked, “Are you OK?” The old man smiled as he replied, “I’m living the dream! I’m on ocean front property and eating surf and turf.”, pointing to his open cans of tuna and Spam.

When one has gratitude for everything in life, that life will be enjoyed.

Random Acts of Kindness

In my previous writings, I have stressed the power of positive thinking. How just having a positive mentality can change the outcome of our daily lives for the better.

However, it is not always easy. Things in our lives can seem unbearable at things and a lot of times it’s the brain chemistry at that time or hormones overriding that positivity. Or it’s just not your day. Whatever the reason, the question you have is, “How do I get in a better mood?”

One of the best ways is to help someone else. It makes you feel happy and better about your own circumstances.

So when the day has got you down, commit random acts of kindness. It will brighten your day like no other.

Is Money Evil?

You’ve probably heard, “Money is the root of all evil.” Although money can be a source of greed and fear, basically money is a facsimile of energy and time. It represents the energy and time of the people who produce the goods and services we purchase with that money. Money itself is neither good or evil, it is analogous to water, it sustains life, but it can drown and crush as well.

Money can be used and is necessary for good. Money pays for a kidney transplant for a child. Money is needed by loving parents to raise a child. People tithe a portion of their income to their church. Since money represents energy, tithe money turns to love energy. The energy of producers is being channeled into acts of love.

So the next time someone tells you that money is the root of all evil, just remember that funds for good acts transform the raw energy of our productive economy into packets of love energy, the same substance that make up ourselves.

We have all thought, “How can I get more money?” We all have, no matter our circumstances.

Sometimes our perceptions deceive us. Our mind may sometimes tell us we are poor, when in reality, we are worth our weight in gold. Our mind may sometimes tell us I’m not pretty/handsome enough, when in reality, you are a beautiful love child of the Universe. Our perception may suggest that we lack, when in fact, we have plenty.

Do not be deceived. When we think abundantly, we tap into the possibilities, which, like the Universe itself, is endless.

Why we are

We all ponder, why do I exist, what is my purpose in life. It is a question that has confounded minds for generations.

We each individually find our calling in life, whether a professional, a mother, an athlete, or the many other callings in life.

We as spiritual beings have one simple calling above all others that we may answer, to love one another and ourselves. We all matter to someone at all times, and we exist to comfort one another and grow together.

There is always a purpose in everything, including ourselves. Keeping growing like the summer grass, before long, one will reach the tree tops.

The Rhythm of the Earth

The roll of the waves at the beach. The rustle of the leaves as the wind blows through the trees. These sounds are of a rhythm, a rhythm that predates humankind’s inventions.

Our lives are so fast paced, our minds race with worries, obligations, deadlines, and anguish. And this has an effect on our performance at work, our relationships, and our overall happiness.

How do we fix this. We must slow our minds down to the rhythm of the Earth. We must quiet the mind to reengage it, so that we can focus on what’s important for us. The quieting of the mind is essential to keeping peace in one’s heart.

There are many ways to do this. Stay tuned for new posts on how to achieve inner peace and contentment.

Your First Love

Divorce and breakups happen with increased frequency. Family members become distant in their relations, and friendships decline. Conflicts and sorrow fill the resulting void.

All these conditions belay a lack of love. So how do we go back to that primordial glue called love that created us.

In order to love, you must love yourself. It sounds counter-intuitive, but if you don’t love yourself, then how can you love others.

That is the first step. In order to be kind, we must be kind to ourselves. When we are present and we are caring toward ourselves, we can extend that love to other people in our lives.

So treat yourself and forgive yourself. You deserve nothing less from yourself, and you’ll spread that joy to everyone around you.
